How to apply skills development in the workplace.
Skills development is 80% practical and 20% theory, which is why it is vitally important to understand how skills development is applied in the working environment.
The thing we need to understand is that skills development is only a success if the person being upskilled is able to apply the theory in practice. Thus our main focus is never on the theory, but on the practical, on-the-job training.
On-the-job training is done by a mentor within the working environment. This can be anyone on a higher level than the person being upskilled. A mentor should be someone that is readily accessible to the individual whenever they have questions.
